Aug 02, 2013 · I first bought a 14 tpi crosscut saw from veritas for tenons/dovetails. I also have a small crown gents saw for smaller stuff. That was fine but I could not properly dimension any rough sawn timber and my cheap handsaws were so frustrating. THe PAX crosscut saw was amazing out of the box in comparison.

The veritas crosscut carcass saw is a staple in my shop and you'd have to kill me (or replace it with something better) to take it away. No brainer, get one. I thought I really needed a rip carcass saw, and I'm sure some people do. However I don't need one and I don't have any intention of getting one.

Mar 10, 2020 · Since you say you prefer hand tools, I will share an idea. I built a miter box (using the guides available from Lee Valley) for use with a carcass cross cut saw (mine is a Veritas)- you set the guides for the thickness of a saw and then cut through the box making a tight fitting, relatively accurate jig.

Veritas has merged modern materials and traditional design to create this well balanced, excellent cutting carcass saw. As you can tell from the name, carcass saws are used to cut furniture carcass pieces and elements of the framework like joints in drawer runners, dividers, and stretchers. Not quite as beefy as a tenon saw, the Veritas Carcass Saw is scaled for smaller work than a tenon saw, yet maneuverable enough to cut dovetails.

Apr 25, 2012 · Jeremy – There is a difference between the BA saw and the Veritas saw (which I have both the rip and crosscut). What you say about how they cut and the comparisons that you make are very good – there is one thing that I have found and thought it was in my head but your pictures tell the story – the angle of the totes are different.

I have never seen a gauge used to hold a file for crosscut filing. Maybe the best solution is a lot of practice and keeping a critical eye on the result.

Let me add at this point that the prices for these saws were all very reasonable and actually helped me take a chance on this different looking saw. It took about a week for them to arrive.
